Outlook process left after closing

When I close the Outlook window the OUTLOOK.EXE process remains. I use
Outlook 2003, Vista Home Premium.

I have to end the process manually.

Why doesn't it close?

Usually because there's a program running that is using Outlook in the
background. Typically that happens with ActiveSync.
